A subgenre of hardcore punk that is distinguished by its optimism and moralistic outlook and was originally a reaction to metal-influenced hardcore. While some youth crew music is similar to melodic hardcore, other styles can be thrash-metal influenced or include breakdowns intended for hardcore dancing. 1986–1992.
