Paraguayan Polka
Dance music developed in Paraguay that differs from European polka in its combining of ternary and binary rhythms; European polka only uses binary. The juxtaposition of these rhythms creates its distinctive sound. There are several variants of the Paraguayan polka, such as polca syryry, polca kyre’y, polca popo, polca saraki, polca galopa, and polca jekutu. All of them are slightly different because of the varied influences and styles adopted by the composers in the early years. 1890s– .
