Operatic Pop
Pop music (also known as popera) that is performed in an operatic singing style or is based on a song, theme, or motif from classical vocal music stylized as pop. The subgenre is often performed by classical crossover singers and acts. The early influx of Italian immigrants to the US inspired the creation of songs with operatic music or novelty songs using an operatic repertory. The genre dwindled in the 1920s but saw a resurgence in the 1960s with The Who’s Tommy. Another resurgence occurred in the 2000s with singers and groups performing operatic pop. 1900s– .
