Baithak Gana

A genre of music enjoyed by the Indian community in Suriname. It is a mix of Bhojpuri folk songs with other Caribbean influences and is similar to the chutney music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago. Three basic instruments are used: harmonium (keyboard), dholak (double-headed drum), and the dhantal (a long steel rod that is struck by a U-formed piece).
